We honor God by making Him a priority in our life.  We put Him first and give him the best seat.  Jesus talks about making HIM the priority over everything else in our lives.  When Jesus called his disciples, they gave up everything to follow Him. It’s not easy to make God a priority over everything else in our lives.  In fact, our sinful nature tells us to put our needs and wants first.

Everyone is worshipping something.  Some people worship their jobs.  Some people worship money.  Some people worship sports.  Some people worship sex.  Some people worship their family.

These things can become idols in our hearts.  Idols compete with God for our love and affection.  God is a jealous God and he wants all of us. 

I’ve actually heard some people say that they’re not going to church because they have to focus on their family.  Oooo.

Families are important and yes we can serve God by serving our families but NOTHING should come before God.  When Jesus is talking about the cost required to be His follower, he says that we have to love Him even more than we love our immediate family.

We can make God the priority in our lives by the way we manage our resources.  Our tithes and offerings are one way we put God first in our lives.  When we tithe, we don’t first pay our mortgage, then the RG&E bill, then the cable, then the groceries, and then give to God what we have left.  Because you know what, nothing’s ever left.  Instead, we tithe before we even think about paying any bills.  We give to God out of our first fruits—our very best.  And we trust Him to provide for our other needs.
