Silence is deafening.
The other day I was exiting a social setting where a group of us where talking about God. The second I walked out the door it hit me. The silence was deafening. I wanted to cover my ears by I knew it was piercing my flesh and rattling my soul. God was there in the silence. It's not that he wasn't there in the room with the rest of us earlier, but when the pollution stops, the melody rings true.
Some people say that when they hear God speak, it's like an inaudible voice. I know what they're getting at--I've felt it. But to me, God's voice sounds like a melody. Not a musical melody, a spiritual melody.
We all hear it. But some of us are like crashing and clanging symbols, off beat, polluting the melody. Others just product static. Some try to sing with it, but they sing off key. Others harmonize, but the closest they'll ever get is singing along side the melody. They complement it, but they miss out on something that could be so much better. But most people... most don't even try to sing.
I believe that we all hear the melody. We all know the truth. Whenever the noise stops, or the sun sets, or the leaves change color, or a baby laughs, in these still moments, the melody rings true to our soul and pierces all that the eye can see. And somehow, somehow we know that there's something more. And with this comes a choice. A choice whether to sing the melody or to scream. To run, to hide, to cover our ears, to sing the wrong ballad, or to try to make it go away. But some of us sing with the melody. We don't try to harmonize or come up with our own parts. We just sing along right with the melody. We follow the truth, and the truth sets us free.
John 16:13-15
"But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. 15All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you."
Now come, won't you sing with me?
