My Other Marriage

By Pastor John on 6/27/2009

Last night, Jen and I had "date night."  Other married couples recommended that we pick at least one night every other week to spend time together, just the two of us.  In order to have a healthy, successful Christ-centered marriage, I realize it's important to take time and energy to invest into it.

The same is true of our marriage with Christ.  We have to spend time pouring ourselves into our relationship with God.  The Bible tells us that our relationship to Christ is that of a marriage.  It's important to spend time with God... reading the Bible, praying, thinking about him, and worshipping him.

So often we hear people say, "I can be a Christian and not go to church."  I think that like saying, "I can be married and not live with my family."  Though it may be true, it's not the way God intended it.  God wants us as brothers and sisters in Christ to live in community together, to do life together, and to support each other along the way so that we receive the blessing that comes with this.

Jen and I are really enjoying being married.  That's because we not only love each other in our hearts and in our actions, but we put God first in everything.
