Remembering Bill Lamb

“I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws.” Psalm 119:7 NIV

BHCC had a huge loss on June 29th, 2012.  Bill Lamb, our dear friend and brother in Christ went home to be with the Lord. Bill has been on the Lead Team in our church for the last seven years. He has served God and the family of BHCC in more ways than I can count. He taught Sunday School every other week for all of those seven years. He orgainized dinners, fund-raisers and cooked breakfasts & meals for more people than I can count.

He participated in around 84 Lead Team meetings and many leadership retreats in that seven year time and contributed greatly to the direction and growth of BHCC.

I remember when I first met Bill, I wasn't sure what to think of him. :-)  Bill was what I would call a blunt communicator and before I really knew him, I wasn't sure where in the world he was coming from when he would bluntly state how he felt about something. One BHCC member talked about Bill as: "You either get Bill or you don't.  I get him and I love him!'"  That describes how I felt about him too. Once you came to know his heart, you understood him in a way that you couldn't unless you really knew him.

One of the things I loved most about Bill once I got to know him was the fact that he was like a little kid at heart.  (I mean that in the best possible way!) He had a passion for life and a passion for God like a little kid.  It was sincere, down-to-earth and authentic. He liked to have fun and he did truly enjoy life. Like a kid, he didn't always have a filter on things he said, and this would often be misinterpreted unless you really knew him (and get him into trouble at times:-).  But I learned to love this side of him because you always knew what he was really thinking.  There was no dishonesty or deception in Bill, you just had to get to know him well enough to understand that about him.  He could be quite silly at times and I found this rather refreshing.

I know I am speaking on behalf of the whole Lead Team when I say that our best memories of Bill will always be the time all of us went camping at Fish Creek in the Adirondacks. We all had an absolute BLAST! We kayaked every day 'til we had blisters on our hands. Bill cooked us gourmet dinners every night. One night, we even had a whole turkey dinner with all the trimmings! On a campsite! We also had great nights of prayer and worship together, up under the beautiful stars.

Our Lead Team meetings have always been so much fun and we shared a lot of life together along the way. Our first meeting without Bill was tougher than any of us could imagine.  Yet, we were comforted in the fact that we could still feel him with us, sitting in the same chair he always sat in, laughing and making jokes right along with us.

It's hard to lose such a close and dear friend.  He was an incredible example of what it means to have courage and faith, right to the very end. We all learned a lot from Bill and he will live on in our hearts as long as we do.  He served the people of BHCC with incredible love, devotion and faithfulness and we will be eternally grateful.

Thanks be to God, we will see him again and for all eternity, we will be worshipping our Lord together as One!

Thank you dear Heavenly Father, for the life, love and faith of Bill Lamb!

If a picture paints a thousand words . .then these pictures paint quite a picture of a godly man and servant of the One True God (especially the last picture!)
